HOW TO MAKE STANDEES
(Experience Notes for Future Reference)
By Robert M. Francisco
- Photo Paper. Glossy Photo Paper is nice but will not be flash friendly as glossy paper will bounce off light. Hence the gigantic wall background was made of non-glossy regular printer paper.
- Image Resolution. After downloading tons of images from the internet you can just hover your cursor on stock images to immediately get the resolution which will get you pixel dimension in "width x height" where "height" is the important value to consider in looking for raw images for the standee as the width will be cropped off anyway.
- DPI (Dots Per Inch). While editing images increasing the DPI (Dots Per Inch) will improve the printing resolution (less jagged edges) depending on the original resolution. Make sure though that your computer has ENOUGH MEMORY to handle larger images. I tried 200dpi on Flash sample but run out of RAM (not enough memory) even with a desktop with 8GB RAM.
POSTER MAKING SOFTWARE
- Online (TOP CHOICE). This has been our go-to software for most of our large "poster" prints.
- One disadvantage of course is if the website goes down then you can't do your posters. We actually experienced down times while doing the superhero designs. If it happens then you're totally screwed... So do yours way in advance...
- Upload Size Limit. Rasterbator has an upload size limit though the file size can already provide enough resolution.
- Number of Printed Pages. You can setup how large your poster is going to be. There is even an outline of a person standing beside for reference. You can specify if you will print on portrait or landscape mode per sheet.
