Lafayette III Post-Valentine’s Piano Night

By Ms. Chit Fernandez

Last Friday evening, we had our Post-Valentine Piano Night come-back, our first one since pre-pandemic.   Music lovers were raring to come together again to enjoy relaxing piano/organ and violin music to soothe our nerves, while sipping red wine, Japanese Gin, brandy & non-alcoholic drinks, and sharing jokes, stories and anecdotes.

Our musicians are a father-daughter tandem, with the father (Toks) playing the piano organ & his daughter, the violin.  She is a UP College of Music senior, who is just completing her thesis to get her Bachelor of Music degree.  They have been our performers since we started our Piano Nights pre-pandemic, and she was then a college freshman.  Musicality rans in their family, since sometimes Toks’s wife. who has a lovely singing voice, would belt out a few ballads with the  music accompaniment of her husband & daughter.

For the potluck event, Condo unit owners brought Pork barbecue galore, Grilled Isaw, Spaghetti alle Vongole (Clam Pasta),  Taiwanese Cheese Sponge Cake from Grand Castela, Krispy Kreme Donuts, Sweet Lanzones, Dates, Chocolates, & Corniks as Pica-pica.  The group enjoyed the camaraderie with lots of laughter, and everyone was amused & fascinated when our “Dancing Queen” VP Marides Silvestre went on stage to dance with gusto & even sing.  She was joined by our President Robert Francisco, Alan Bailon & Janna, who all had to read the song lyrics using their cellphones.  They were so used to singing using the Karaoke, so it was understandable that they had to Google the lyrics of their songs.   The 3 hours were nearly over, but since we were egging Susan So-Chuahi to sing, I  requested for an extension of another hour of music and fun.   Susan’s husband Robert Chuahi proudly took a cellphone video of her singing performance, which was later joined by Robert Francisco.

It was nearly midnight when we rode the elevator back to our condo units, tired & sleepy, but happy.  We finally had our first return of the Piano Night social event, with the objective  of fostering friendship & camaraderie among our condo residents, and simply relax, de-stress & enjoy each other’s company, after a looooong pandemic break…
