If you are a Philippine passport holder or legal resident in the Philippines renewing a U.S. B1/B2 (Business/Tourism) visa, you may qualify for the Interview Waiver (Dropbox) Program, allowing you to renew your visa without having to attend an in-person embassy interview.

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility

You generally qualify for the Interview Waiver (Dropbox) process if:

  • Visa Category: You are renewing a B1, B2, or combined B1/B2 visa.   U.S. Embassy PH

  • Validity Period: Your prior visa was issued for full validity (10-year multiple-entry for Philippine citizens).   U.S. Embassy PH

  • Expiration Window: Your previous U.S. visa is still valid or expired within the last 12 months. SMB Travel & Tours 

  • Passport & Visa in Possession: You possess the original passport containing your most recent U.S. visa.   SMB Travel & Tours 

  • Age at Last Issuance: The prior visa was issued when you were at least 18 years old. U.S. Embassy PH
      
  • Personal Info Match: Your full name, date of birth, and gender on your previous visa match your current passport.   SMB Travel & Tours 

  • Clean Immigration History: Your last visa application was approved, and you have no history of visa refusal, arrest, or immigration status extensions/violations while in the U.S..  SMB Travel & Tours 


Step 2: Complete the DS-160 Online Application

  1. Go to the official Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) website.




  2. Select PHILIPPINES, MANILA as your application location.   The Poor Traveler

  3. Fill out the DS-160 form completely with accurate personal, work, and travel details.   The Poor Traveler

  4. Upload a digital photo (2x2 inches, white background, taken within the last 6 months, no eyeglasses).   The Poor Traveler

  5. Submit the form, save the DS-160 Confirmation Number (starts with AA...), and print the DS-160 Confirmation Page.   DS160.io


Step 3: Register on the U.S. Visa Scheduling Portal

  1. Visit the official U.S. Visa scheduling portal (usvisascheduling.com).   ph.usembassy.gov

  2. Log in or create an account if you do not have one.   DS160.io

  3. Click Start Application and select Nonimmigrant Visa -> Business/Tourism.   The Poor Traveler

  4. Input your personal details, current passport information, and DS-160 Confirmation Number. DS160.io

Step 4: Pay the Visa Machine Readable Visa (MRV) Application Fee

  1. The standard non-refundable fee for a B1/B2 visa is $185 USD (payable in Philippine Pesos at the prevailing consular rate).

  2. Generate a payment slip on the scheduling portal and make your payment via available payment channels (e.g., online banking or in-person at designated RCBC branches).

  3. Keep the receipt and reference numbers for verification on the portal.


Step 5: Answer the Interview Waiver Assessment

  1. After fee confirmation, answer the Interview Waiver Questionnaire presented on the system.

  2. If the system confirms eligibility, it will generate an Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter / Drop Box Submission Slip instead of scheduling an in-person interview date.   SMB Travel & Tours

  3. Download and print this Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter.


Step 6: Prepare & Submit Your Document Package

Gather the required physical documents:

  • Printed Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter   SMB Travel & Tours

  • Printed DS-160 Confirmation Page    DS160.io

  • Current Valid Philippine Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay)   DS160.io

  • Previous Passport containing your expired/current 10-year B1/B2 U.S. Visa   SMB Travel & Tours

  • Two (2) physical 2x2 photos (white background, no spectacles/eyeglasses, taken within the last 6 months)   The Poor Traveler


Drop-off Submission Locations:

  • 2GO Outlets: Submit your sealed document packet at any authorized 2GO branch offering visa document submission services across the Philippines.

  • Visa Application Center (VAC): Drop off directly at the U.S. Visa Application Center in Metro Manila (Parqal Mall, Parañaque City).


Step 7: Passport Retrieval

  • Processing: The U.S. Embassy in Manila will review your application.   SMB Travel & Tours

  • Delivery/Pickup: Once processed, your passport will be returned based on the option you selected during portal registration:
    • Courier Delivery (2GO): Delivered directly to your designated home or office address.

Q: We had a previous unsuccessful DS-160 online application. Can we still proceed with that?


How you handle a previous "unsuccessful" DS-160 application depends on whether you mean a technical issue with the form or a previous visa refusal/denial.


Scenario A: The Form Was Incomplete, Expired, or Submitted with Errors (Technical / Form Issue)

1. If the DS-160 session expired or timed out before submission:

  • You cannot continue it if more than 30 days have passed. Incomplete applications left untouched for 30 days are automatically purged from the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) system.   DS160.io

  • Action needed: You must start a new DS-160 application.


2. If you submitted the DS-160, but it contains errors or was never used:

  • You cannot edit a submitted DS-160. Once signed and submitted, the details are locked.   Localyze

  • Action needed: Fill out a new DS-160. You can speed up the process on the CEAC website by selecting Retrieve an Application, entering your old Application ID, answering your security question, and choosing Create a New Application. This will copy over your previously entered information so you can correct errors and re-submit to get a new Confirmation Number (AA...).   Localyze

    Important: If you generate a new DS-160 Confirmation Number, make sure to update your profile on the U.S. Visa Scheduling Portal with the new DS-160 confirmation number before dropping off your documents or scheduling an appointment.


Scenario B: You Were Previously Denied/Refused a U.S. Visa (Immigration Status Issue)

If "unsuccessful" means you had a U.S. visa application that was refused or denied in the past (e.g., under Section 214(b) or Section 221(g)):

  • Impact on Dropbox (Interview Waiver): You will likely be ineligible for the Dropbox/Interview Waiver method.   Check Visa Slots

Q: Is the application ID a 10 digit code with bar code?


Yes, but with one important distinction:

It is a 10-character alphanumeric code (a combination of letters and numbers), rather than purely 10 digits.   Travel


Key Characteristics:

  • Format: It almost always begins with AA followed by 8 numbers and letters (for example: AA00123456 or AA00A1B2C3).

  • Barcode: Yes, it comes with a barcode. Once you submit your DS-160 online, the CEAC system generates a DS-160 Confirmation Page. This page prominently features a large rectangular barcode with your 10-character ID printed right under or near it.   Lawble


Understanding How It Works:

  1. While filling out the form (Application ID):

    • When you first start a DS-160, this code appears in the upper right-hand corner of your screen as the Application ID. You use this ID (along with your security question) to save, resume, or retrieve a draft application.   Boundless

  2. After submitting the form (Confirmation / Barcode Number):

    • Once signed and submitted, this same code becomes your official DS-160 Confirmation Number or Barcode Number.


Critical Reminder for Visa Renewal:

The 10-character barcode number on your physical DS-160 Confirmation Page must exactly match the DS-160 number linked to your profile on the U.S. Visa Scheduling Portal. If you created a new DS-160, make sure to update your scheduling profile with the new 10-character code before dropping off your documents!




Q: Is it possible to update last week's online application using that 10 digit alphanumeric ID?


Yes, it is possible, but how you do it depends on whether last week's application was already submitted or saved as an incomplete draft.


Case 1: If it was NOT submitted yet (Saved Draft)

If you started filling it out last week but never reached the final submission/confirmation page:

  • Status: Drafts are saved on the CEAC system for 30 days from the day they were created or last saved.

  • How to update it:

    1. Go to the CEAC Website.

    2. Select Philippines, Manila as your location.

    3. Click Retrieve an Application.|

    4. Enter your 10-character Application ID (e.g., AA12345678).

    5. Answer the security verification fields (First 5 letters of your Surname, Year of Birth, and the Security Answer you selected when you started the form).

    6. You will be able to reopen your application, edit or complete any details, and submit it.


Case 2: If it WAS already submitted last week

Once a DS-160 is signed and submitted online, the original form is locked and cannot be directly edited. However, you can use the Application ID to clone/pre-fill a new form:


  • How to update it using the old ID:

    1. Go to the CEAC Website.

    2. Click Retrieve an Application.

    3. Enter your old 10-character Application ID and answer the security questions.

    4. Once logged in, choose the option "Create a New Application" (rather than "View Confirmation Page").

    5. This will automatically carry over almost all the information you entered last week into a fresh DS-160 form.

    6. Make the necessary updates/corrections, review, sign, and submit.

⚠️ Important: Cloning/re-submitting generates a NEW 10-character Confirmation ID (a new AA... number). If you do this, you must update your U.S. Visa Scheduling portal profile (usvisascheduling.com) with the new DS-160 number so your appointment/dropbox confirmation slip matches your physical submitted form.

To pay the Machine Readable Visa (MRV) Application Fee (currently $185 USD per applicant, converted to Philippine Pesos at the U.S. Embassy consular exchange rate), follow these step-by-step instructions:


Step 1: Access the Payment Screen on the Scheduling Portal

  1. Log into your account on the official U.S. Visa scheduling portal (usvisascheduling.com).

  2. Complete your personal details, select your visa type (B1/B2 - Business/Tourism), and enter your DS-160 Confirmation Number (AA...).

  3. Progress through the portal until you reach the Payment Options screen.   U.S. Embassy in the Philippines


Step 2: Choose Your Payment Method

When you reach the payment section on usvisascheduling.com, you will be presented with the following payment options for Philippine applicants:


  • Option A: Mobile Banking / eWallet via QR Code (GCash, Maya, QR PH) (Most Common & Convenient)
    1. Select Mobile / QR Code Payment (or QR PH option).

    2. Click "Generate QR code to scan with Mobile Banking Apps or eWallets".

    3. A unique QR PH code will appear on your screen along with a Pay Slip reference number and expiration date.

    4. Open your preferred mobile app on your phone:

      • GCash: Tap QR / Scan -> point camera at screen -> verify details -> Pay.

      • Maya / ShopeePay / GrabPay: Tap Scan QR -> verify -> Pay.

      • Mobile Bank Apps (BDO, BPI, UnionBank, Metrobank, etc.): Use your app’s Scan QR / QR PH feature.

    5. Pay the exact amount displayed (11,840.00 PHP).

    6. Save a screenshot of the successful transaction receipt.

  • Option B: Cash Payment at RCBC Branch (Over-the-Counter)
    1. Select Cash at Bank / Over the Counter.

    2. The portal will generate a U.S. Visa Application Fee Deposit Slip containing a unique Payment / CGI Reference Number and an Expiration Date. Download and print this.

    3. Visit any RCBC (Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation) branch in the Philippines.

    4. Hand the printed slip to an RCBC bank teller and pay the exact amount in cash. Do not use a cash machine or regular deposit machine

    5. Keep the official RCBC bank receipt given by the teller.  It contains your payment reference/receipt number.

  • Option C: Online Bank Transfer / PesoNet

    1. Select Online Payment / Credit Card / PesoNet on the portal.
    2. Follow the prompt to pay using an accepted credit card or supported online banking portal (via PesoNet/RCBC).
    3. Use your online bank account to transfer funds via PesoNet using the specific account details and CGI reference provided by the portal.

    4. Save the successful  transaction confirmation/receipt.


  • Option D: Debit / Credit Card
    1. Select Credit / Debit Card.

    2. Enter your Visa or Mastercard details directly on the portal's payment gateway.

    3. Complete the 3D-Secure / OTP verification sent to your phone.


  • Processing Time Note:

    • Mobile / eWallet / Card / RCBC payments process digitally, but usvisascheduling.com states it may take a few minutes up to 24 hours for the portal system to acknowledge payment and unlock your final Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter.



Step 3: Wait for Payment Activation

  • Processing Time: Payment activation is not always instant. It usually takes 1 business day (or up to 24 hours) for the system to process and recognize your payment.   Scribd

  • If paid over the counter at RCBC on a weekend or holiday, activation usually occurs on the next business day.


Step 4: Verify and Continue Application

  1. Return to usvisascheduling.com and log into your account.

  2. In most cases under the current system, the portal automatically links your payment via your CGI reference number. If prompted, enter the Receipt / Payment Reference Number from your RCBC/online payment receipt.

  3. Once unlocked, you can proceed to the Interview Waiver Assessment to generate your Dropbox Submission Slip.


⚠️ Critical Tips

  • Exact Amount & Expiration: Always pay the exact PHP amount listed on the deposit slip. Ensure you pay before the expiration date printed on the slip; if it expires, generate a fresh slip on the portal before paying.   Scribd

  • Non-Refundable & Non-Transferable: The MRV fee is non-refundable and strictly valid for one year from the date of payment.   USEmbassy.gov

  • One Slip Per Applicant/Group: Ensure the total fee on the generated payment instruction matches the total number of applicants paying together.   U.S. Embassy in the Philippines




Q: Trying the usvisascheduling.... after so many steps then this... So should I retry or wait? But it's been at least 10 minutes already...


Do not wait any longer. If it has been stuck on "Loading..." for 10 minutes, the session script has hung or timed out in the background. Waiting will not fix it.   

This "Loading..." freeze on the Interview Waiver questionnaire page is a very well-known glitch on the usvisascheduling.com portal.   


What to do right now:

1. Close the tab and open a fresh Incognito / Private window

  • Do not worry about losing data: The portal automatically saves your progress per completed step. All the previous steps shown in your breadcrumb trail (Applicant Details, Visa Options, Additional Options) are already saved on your profile.
     
  • Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge in Incognito/Private mode.

  • Go back to usvisascheduling.com and log back in.

  • Click "Continue Application" on your dashboard. It should take you right back to the Interview Waiver step.


2. Best Browser Practices for this portal

  • Use a Laptop / Desktop PC: Avoid doing this on a smartphone or tablet, as the site scripts frequently fail on mobile browsers.

  • Use Chrome or Edge: Firefox and Safari tend to freeze more often on this specific platform.

  • Clear Browser Cache/Cookies: Stale cookies often lock up the Interview Waiver questionnaire overlay.


3. If it freezes on "Loading..." again when you click Next

  • Click carefully: Click the button once and wait 5–10 seconds. Double-clicking or clicking rapidly while the script initializes can trigger the infinite loading bug.

  • Try during off-peak hours: Server congestion causes script timeouts. If it continues to hang repeatedly, try accessing the portal late at night (after 10 PM) or early in the morning (6 AM – 8 AM) when server traffic is significantly lower.

Q:  Now Where Do I...  "Download and print this Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter."


You cannot see or download the Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter yet because your payment has not been completed and processed by the system.   

The system locks the final confirmation page until your payment balance is cleared.   


Step 1: Wait for Payment System Activation

As noted on your screen: "Please allow 24 hours from the time payment was made for system processing."

Even though GCash processes payments instantly, the usvisascheduling.com database can take a few minutes up to 24 hours to update the status.   


Step 2: Get Your Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter

Once you have paid, log out or wait a short while, then log back into usvisascheduling.com.

On your dashboard, click Continue Application.

Once the portal verifies your payment balance is 0.00 PHP Remaining, the system will automatically advance you to the final page.   

You will then see the option to Print / Download your Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter (Submission Slip).
