Concierge PC & iFAE (Beta Testing) Launches Today 11/11 @ 11am


What is Beta Testing?  Beta testing in software development can be considered "pre-release testing." Beta testing is also sometimes referred to as user acceptance testing (UAT) or end-user testing.  For purposes of Beta Testing we shall initially focus on :

  • (1) the use of messaging apps Facebook Messenger and Viber ; and 
  • (2) making ALL NETwork mobile calls and texts via the touch screen Concierge computer.

Here are just some short notes:

  1.    How the Concierge PC evolved ; and 
  2.    How Lafayette III Evolved the FOPM iFAE computer

For purposes of Beta Testing we shall try to accomplish the following functionalities first:

  •    Destiny Cable Channel 33 Lobby Monitor.  In the past Destiny Cable was the exclusive cable provider for TEL3 and one facility they have provided is a dedicated Channel  33 which acts as a lobby to monitor incoming guests.  So if you may be expecting a guest in the lobby then you turn to Channel 33 and a connected CCTV camera at the lobby will give you a view.  Nowadays of course such could have privacy implications as you can easily monitor and stalk movements of a person in the lobby area.  Eventually Sky Cable came into TEL3 and as Sky Cable grew it eventually gobbled up Destiny Cable and all analog facilities of Destiny was switched over to Sky Cable.
    •    The Concierge Solution :   Use messaging apps like Facebook Messenger or Viber so residents may view their guests while at home using their own mobile/PC apps to see thru the eyes of lobby Concierge camera using the same messaging app.

  •    No Landline Scenario.   Whereas communications technologies have rapidly evolved alongside with the ubiquity or proliferation of smartphones, most residents have abandoned the use of landlines.  However the TEL3 lobby reception only had the landline number 8-4632417 and if residents (particularly seniors) try to use their mobile phone to contact the lobby reception then each call will be charged the corresponding mobile to landline rate of around 7.50 per minute.  

    • To initially solve this a Globe prepaid number 0927-3529503 was used on the dual SIM basic phone used by the 8-4632417 PLDT wireless landline... and loaded every month with UNLI ALLNET calls and text to all networks.
    •    The Concierge Upgrade Solution :  
      • The Globe number will eventually be replaced with a new Smart number 0960-3731608 as Smart Telecoms has better signal in TEL3 due to the fact that there are pico cells all over the building. 
      • The Concierge PC will be able to accept and make such MOBILE CALLS and TEXT MESSAGES via the TOUCH SCREEN computer.
      • Currently the PLDT Landline SIM is still of the large form factor and needs to be brought to a PLDT business center for conversion. Once converted the hope is even the wireless landline will be available for making/receiving calls via the computer.

  •    Twitter Alerts.   This facility shall be included in the Concierge communications plate.  But please TAKE NOTE that this is not meant to be a conversations platform.  It is more of an extension of a bulletin board memo.  You can probably make an analogy with an NDRRMC alert.  Use cases for this could be:
    • "We shall commence with our pest control activity in ONE HOUR.  Please take note if you are going out and adjust your schedule accordingly.  Thank You!"
    • "We shall be commencing with our Annual Electrical Preventive Maintenance and power shall be shut down starting 7:00am for approximately 4 hours.  For those who wish to go out during the duration of the activity please be reminded that elevators will be inoperable in 30 minutes."

    As this is new technology for the Concierge desk, as such PLEASE BE PATIENT as our staff try to familiarize themselves in using the technology.  As Tony Robbins said: “Repetition is the mother of skill" and just like Earthquake Drills it will take a lot of repetition in order for "muscle memory" to kick in.
